William Morton "Bill" Olson, age 74, passed away on August 3, 2012, of complications due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Bill was born in Longview, Washington, on September 23, 1937, to Walter Benjamin Hand and Vessie Selina Johnson. When his parents divorced, his mother remarried Audin O. Olson in 1942, at which time he assumed his stepfather's surname.
Bill attended Rochester High School graduating in 1955.
Bill has a great love for sports, basketball being his favorite, followed by football, hunting and fishing. He so loved and enjoyed being with his hunting group and each one had a special place in his heart.
Bill had served in the National Guard, from which he received an honorable discharge.
Bill also had joined the Washington State Patrol Academy and received high recommendations from fellow troopers for his dedicated service to the department.
Bill dedicated most of his life to the grocery industry, where he managed stores in Alaska and locally. He gave many years to Sunny Farms Country Store, from which he retired in 2011.
Bill met his wife, Wendy, at Sunny Farms, where they had been co-workers and friends. Life-altering situations in both their lives brought them together, and they were married on August 4, 2001. Bill passed one day before their 11th anniversary.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother, father and stepfather.
Bill is survived by his wife, Wendy; sons Rob (Patty) of Sequim, Tim (Stephanie) of Oak Harbor, and Jason (Ann) of Sequim; daughters Tina Olson (Dave) of Sequim and Teresa Olson of Tacoma; stepdaughter Renee Bjerkaker (Kevin) of Arlington; stepson Rod Harnden (Kendra) of Stanwood, Washington; brothers Don Olson of Colorado, and Ken (Karen of Centralia, Washington; sisters Shirley King (Ed) of Metalline Falls, Washington, and Beverly Olson (Fran) of Chehalis, Washington; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no services. Cremation under the direction of Drennan and Ford Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
