I'm sorry to hear that you are gone, Binky, but know that you are now at peace. I only knew you a short few months in 2007, but loved to hear of your journeys on the research boats, your whale kiss, and your personal look into a whale's eye just feet away from your boat. I saw your excitement while you were getting ready for a dinner date with Jean-Michel Cousteau and felt your energy at being able to talk to him again. I've enjoyed Whale Dreamers and Whale Rider because of your exuberance and love of these elegant creatures. Thank you for spending time with me and telling me about your adventures! You are missed...

I had not heard of "Binki" until I read about her today in a blog comment by mijnheer here: http://james-mcwilliams.com/?p=3206 She instantly became one of my heroes. I intend to honor her compassion and courage by sending her remarkable story, along with the link to this guest book, to others who are demanding justice for all beautiful, innocent animals, including God's great whales.

I had a deep love and admiration for Alberta and her passion and valiant work in supporting her beliefs and the precious whales. I only knew her through the film Whale Dreamers and her work and have only just found out that she passed over in April this year. My condolences to her family and friends. You must be all so proud. What a remarkable woman and Makah Elder!

I met Alberta during the Sea Shepherd campaign of 1998. She was a brave woman who stood up for her community.

I have been following the work of Alberta "Binki" Thompson for some years and only just learned of her passing. She was and is important to me because 35 years ago I founded and still work for I the Nantucket Marine Mammal Conservation Program here on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. You may know about Nantucket as it was the "whaling capitol" of the world in the 1700s and early 1800s. Binki is one of my heros. I so admire the way she stood up for whales! Whales sustained Nantucket in the same way as they sustained the Makah tribe. Now, as Binki would say, it is time for us to repay that debt by standing up for the whales! Thank you for being such an inspiration to so many people worldwide. You are a shining example of just how much one person can accomplish!

I only learned about Alberta after her death but even I know that she was a couragus woman standing up for the rights of whales even if it ment being outlawed by some of her own. We all owe her a great deal and may she Rest In Piece

Alberta Thompson, this wise elder, understood more deeply than others that debt is owed to those beings who sustained us. We too, must sustain their tribe, their people - in so doing we do our part in the whole of the earth. Thank you, Alberta, for showing all peoples the right way to live. Thank you for being, for your courage, for your love. You have made us rich through the gift of your life to this world.
