Obituary

Anita Jane (Nikki) Horan Short was born at Madigan General Hospital on March 12, 1963, in Tacoma, Washington, to Airman First Class Nelson James Horan Jr., and Sharon Tuttle Horan. She entered into the presence of the Lord on February 8, 2025, at the age of 61 years. Burial was February 26, 2025, at the Quillayute Cemetery, Forks, Washington. Her father passed into eternity 11-27-1991. She is survived by her Mother, Sharon Tuttle Horan, her beloved Husband, George Short, Sister, Kimberly (Bill) Berkenkotter, Renton, Brother, Nelson (Jim) (Tracy) Horan 111, Idaho, and many family members and devoted friends. Anita graduated from Blaine High School and earned an Associate of Arts degree from South Seattle Community College. After high school she relocated to Seattle to pursue her creative skills at Pyromedia where she met her husband, George. While growing up in Blaine, Washington, Anita loved riding and showing her Arabian Quarter Horse, Princess, at the Lynden Fair. She was active at the Blaine Baptist Church, taught gymnastics, enjoyed cheerleading and various sports. Girls State participation furthered her interest in Student Government and politics in general. There was not a craft she hadn't enjoyed and mastered. Board games and cards were her delight. She was a gifted vocalist. Each year, she crocheted items for Samaritan's Purse Christmas Boxes to share the Hope of Christ worldwide. Anita truly cared about others and was the first one to offer assistance, regardless of what was needed. She is now at peace in the arms of Christ her Savior. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Taylor Creek Church, 21110 - 244th Avenue SE, Maple Valley, Washington, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Fred Hutch Cancer Care Center, Seattle, or to the Anita Short Memorial Fund at Taylor Creek Church, Post Office Box 257, Maple Valley, WA 98038.
