Ann
Kennedy
Nov 28, 1933 — Mar 14, 2021
Port Angeles
Ann Redkey Kennedy, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 14, 2021. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who above all treasured God and family.
Ann was born to Lucille Storer Redkey and William Henry Redkey on November 28, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio. During her childhood she lived in many places including Orlando, Chicago, Daytona Beach, San Francisco, Seattle and Vienna, VA. While she found the frequent moves stemming from her father's Public Health Service posts difficult as a child, her knowledge of so many different areas of the country later allowed her to form connections with people from all walks of life.
As a teenager in Seattle, she joined a Presbyterian youth group and became a Christian grounded in her faith. She was a devoted older sister to her twin siblings, earning her "mama wings" early. She graduated from Fairfax High in Virginia and returned to the Northwest as a student at the University of Washington. There she met and married her husband of 57 years, Robert Kennedy, at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle in 1953. After moving around the country early in their marriage for Bob's Public Health Service posts, they decided to raise their family in Port Angeles, WA, where Bob ran a successful dental practice for many years.
Ann loved looking up to the snowy mountains and spent many a ski vacation with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She even climbed Mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in western Washington! She enjoyed reading and puzzles of all sorts and adored music, performing in several Port Angeles Light Opera Association productions. She sang in the choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She hosted guests from around the world at her Anniken's Bed-and-Breakfast and volunteered actively at the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau. She maintained an avid interest in politics and was a committed poll worker during election season.
She participated in the Christian Women's Club in her younger days and helped form a local Parkinson's Support Group after learning of her brother Edwin's Parkinson's diagnosis.
Ann is survived by her children: Lucy and Steve Nordwell (Port Angeles), Scott and Brenda Kennedy (Port Angeles), Dan Kennedy (Enumclaw, WA), Katie and Dennis McVicker (Brush Prairie, WA), and Steve and Amy Kennedy (Port Angeles) as well as 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Sue Redkey and husband Dan Cushing and her brother Bill Redkey and wife Soozi Redkey, her Kennedy sisters- and brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Edwin Redkey, and is survived by his wife Nancy Redkey.
A small family service will be held at a later date. Any donations in memory of Ann can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Volunteer Hospice of Port Angeles.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home in Port Angeles was entrusted with her arrangements. Please sign the online guestbook for her family at www.drennanford.com .
