Christine Lynn
Borchers
Jul 13, 1948 — Aug 17, 2022
Port Angeles
On Wednesday, August 17, 2022 Christine Lynne Borchers, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at seventy four years of age. Christine was born in Benkelman, Nebraska to Florence and Ralph Salyard. She grew up in Portland, Oregon, where she attended David Douglas High school and met her future husband of 53 years Leonard Borchers.
After earning her RN degree, Christine cared for patients in hospital, home health care, nursing home, clinical, school and public health settings. She served as the AIDS Outreach Coordinator for Clallam County and later as the Nurse Consultant for the Oly Cap Head Start program. Throughout her career, she worked to support people who had been overlooked or underserved by society at large: the terminally ill children of migrant farm workers, HIV-positive men in need of treatment and support in the early days of the AIDS crisis, low-income families seeking educational opportunities for their kids.
Christine was friendly, kindhearted and loved to laugh. She enjoyed spending time in the garden, traveling to both new and familiar places, listening to public radio, and conversation with friends. An excellent cook and baker, she taught her children to eat well and could make a particularly memorable lasagna. Christine is survived by her husband, Leonard; her children, Allison, Andrew and Nicholas; her brother Ron Salyard; and her grandson, Lincoln Edwards as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.
Friends are welcome to join the family as we gather to remember and celebrate Christine on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 PM at the Red Lion Hotel on North Lincoln Street in Port Angeles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to
