Clifford P
Rocheleau
Nov 24, 1942 — Sep 26, 2021
Sequim
Clifford P. Rocheleau was born in Waterbury, CT on 11/24/1942 to Clifford Alcide Rocheleau and Charlotte Ella (Paul) Rocheleau. He died on 9/26/2021 at 78 years of age in his home with his wife, children, and grandchild present, from complications of metastatic lung cancer. Cliff was raised in Hartford, CT and graduated from Albert Prince Technical School Electrical Department in 1961. He joined the USCG in March of 1962 with basic training in Cape May, NJ. His first duty station was Willipa Bay Life Boat Station in Tokeland, WA 1962-1963.
This was his first time in WA, and he loved it here! He went back to Electronic Technician School in Groton, CT, but came back to WA to serve on the CGC Winona 1963-1965 in Port Angeles as an electronics technician. At this time he married and had his first son in 1965, before later divorcing. Cliff went on to serve in Vietnam in the CG Squadron 1 on the CGC Point Banks from 1965 - 1966 as an ET2. He was very proud of his 4 years served in the Coast Guard! Cliff remained in the CG inactive reserves until March 1972. He had a lifelong membership in the VFW Post 6787.
After leaving the CG in 1966, Cliff worked at Crown Z Mill for a short time, and then worked at Todd Shipyards in Seattle in the electrical shop before coming back to Port Angeles to work at McLennan's Electric as an apprentice electrician for a year. He went to work as a Longshoreman in 1968, where he worked as an "A"; man for 38 years, 13 of which he was also the Secretary/Treasurer and assistant dispatcher for the ILWU Local 27. He was chairman of the CGC Winona All Crews Reunions from 1998 - 2009, putting many hours into planning and overseeing biannual gatherings of all the crewmates of the Winona from all of her years in Port Angeles. He was very honored to have been remembered in the PDN's September 5, 2021 Clallam History Column "Back When" on the history of the Winona, and for his efforts to keep her memories alive.
Cliff married Tina Pyles in the fall of 1974, and they raised their two children along with his oldest son together in Port Angeles. They moved to their Sequim home in 1998 where he happily gardened and tinkered to his heart's content! He retired from longshoring in 2001. Cliff had many hobbies over the years including fishing, stamp collecting, and metal detecting; he was the authorized local dealer for Garrett Metal Detectors for many years. In his family, he was known as "the man behind the camera", and he was responsible for capturing so many of our family's memories in pictures and on video! Cliff was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed forever and always.
Cliff is predeceased in death by his father, Clifford A. and sister, Sharlot (Sharry) Begin. He is survived by his loving wife Tina of almost 47 years, his oldest son Michael (Lonnie), daughter Danielle, youngest son Timothee (Carissa), and his granddaughter, Fiona. Cliff is also survived by his mother, Charlotte. There will be no services per his request; a plaque will be placed in the Tahoma National Cemetery in his honor. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, and we sincerely thank them for their compassionate care.
We are very grateful for the care provided by all of his doctors and practitioners, and for the wonderful support and assistance from Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County. If you are so inclined, a donation to this wonderful organization in Cliff's memory would be greatly appreciated.
