Obituary

Connie Dianne (Wright) Hyatt died on April 26, 2021 at the age of 82. She was born on January 1, 1939 to Ruth and Lester Wright and she was the youngest of four siblings: David (1926-1945), Margaret "Peggy" (1930-1998), and Tedmond (1936-2015).

Connie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Social Work from Lewis and Clark University. She was a social worker for the State of Oregon's Health and Human Resources for many decades in Central Oregon.

As an adventuress, Connie travelled the world and had a lifelong sense of curiosity about every person she met and every place she saw. As a committed advocate for civil rights and women's rights, Connie devoted countless volunteer hours and financial resources to prevent the abuse of women, to promote women's education in her community and abroad, and to advocate for the rights of indigenous people in the United States. Connie also volunteered for many different political candidates, supported the efforts of the ACLU, the University of Wyoming's archaeology and anthropology department, and she created a local branch of The Coffee Party.

Connie loved God and she loved her neighbors. When she retired, she moved to Sequim, Washington, where she served Trinity United Methodist Church as part of the peace and justice program, the welcoming and inviting committee, in adult education, hospice care, and in the memorial services committee. She supported the Sequim Free Clinic, which provides medical care for uninsured and underserved populations.

In addition to her passion for justice, her lively faith, and her activism, Connie had a wicked sense of humor. We all miss her quick wit and her mischievous, smiley eyes.

To her family and her friends, Connie was and is one-of-a-kind. She is survived by her nieces Shannon Tebbetts, April Weare, Phyllis Grosegebauer, Teri Ann Sramek as well as five grand nieces, four grand nephews, and many, many friends. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial for Connie. To honor her, in lieu of flowers, please live in service to God and others, and send donations to Winema Christian camp. "I want no funeral or memorial," she said, "Please expend your energy and resources on behalf of the living."

Drennan and Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is entrusted with her arrangements. Please sign the online guestbook for her family at www.drennanford.com .
