Obituary

Longtime Port Angeles resident, Dale Cushman, died March 5, 2021, of heart and lung issues. He was 98.

Born to Walter Cushman and Margaret Lonsdale of Norcross, Minnesota, he was one of four siblings, each preceding him in death.

Dale grew up in Exeter, Nebraska, and joined the Coast Guard in 1941. He became an aircraft mechanic; stationed in San Francisco, later serving in Alaska, San Diego and the Philippines. He retired as Chief Petty Officer from USCG Port Angeles in 1962.

After retirement, Dale worked for Olympic Delivery Service and Larry Winter's Garage. He then became a letter carrier for the Postal Service, retiring in 1983. Dale was a member of Queen of Angels Church.

He married Elizabeth Gartner in 1943. She preceded him in death in 1991. He later married Barbara Gase in 2011. She also preceded him in death in 2016.

He loved woodworking and completed many projects at home and for the church.

Dale is survived by son, Jim (Sandra) of Port Angeles; cousins, Sharon and Ann Sjostrom and Sandy Davis of Colorado; and many relatives in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.

A burial service will take place at Ocean View Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, with the Deacon Richard Lebreque presiding. The Coast Guard will also participate in the ceremony. Up to forty can attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted at Queen of Angels Church.
