David
Cason
Mar 8, 1937 — Nov 8, 2024
Port Angeles
David Cason, TSgt USAF (Ret), passed away on November 8, 2024 at 3:45 pm, in Port Angeles, WA. He was born on March 8, 1937 in Baltimore, MD and was 87 years old when he went home to be with the Lord.
David graduated from high school in 1956 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his 20+ years of honorable service to his country, he completed 2 years of college plus several specialized military schools.
In his time in the Air Force from 1956-1976, he spent 18 years of his career serving in the Pacific, based out of Hawaii, and also was deployed to the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was proud of his military service and said he would do it again, in spite of exposure to Agent Orange which caused him long term health issues. David served in a variety of positions, including Aircraft Loadmaster, Traffic Management Supervisor, and Foreman Cargo Agent. His most interesting assignment was five years as a diver, recovering space craft for the American Space Program. For this assignment, he had the rare opportunity to attend the US Navy Rescue Divers School. He retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20+ years of distinguished service.
During a tour of duty in Japan, David learned to make tofu. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Graham, WA and established the Country Home Tofu factory. He owned and operated the factory for 25 years. Then he retired and the factory was sold.
Throughout his life, David was devoted to healthy and sustainable living. While stationed in Hawaii, he became a master apiarist. He taught beekeeping at the University of Honolulu and also maintained a bee farm of over 50 hives. In his spare time, David loved diving for crabs and lobsters for neighborhood luaus. He continued his love of natural living with home gardening and study of holistic medicine. David attributed his longevity to bee products and other natural living practices.
David is survived by his wife Barbara Cason, children David Louis Cason, Jennifer Spencley, and Maria Nelson, his sister Eleanor Marie Tierney, and 5 grandchildren.
David is preceded in death by his parents, (adopted father) George and Eleanor Cason, previous wife Yong Cason, son Tommy Cason, brother Jack Deideman (missing, presumed killed in action during the Korean war at age 17), and sister Penny Lee Simpson.
David was raised Catholic and throughout his life, his faith was very important to him. He sang in church choirs with a beautiful, powerful voice with a range of tenor to bass. David and wife Barbara became members of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim Washington in 2012. He belonged to veterans community organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and The Retired Enlisted Association. He also worked at the Soldiers Home before founding his tofu factory.
At the end of his life, David fought a hard battle with service related health issues. However, he took great comfort from seeing Donald J Trump elected as the 47th President of the United States.
The memorial service for David will be held on November 24th, 2024 at 2 pm. It will be at Faith Lutheran Church, 382 West Cedar St, Sequim WA, (360) 683-4803.
David's widow Barbara has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 829 E 8thSt, Port Angeles WA, (360) 452-1511, volunteerhospice.org, in the name of David Cason.
