Port Angeles

Obituary

Port Angeles resident Delores Jean DeFrang passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Olympic Medical Center. She was 90.

Delores Jean DeFrang was born to Gladys Ellingson Shamp and Benjamin Shamp in Willmar, Minnesota. Delores was the youngest of five children.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles, and shortly thereafter married Donald A. DeFrang. They had five children all born in Port Angeles, Cathy, Fred, Cyndi, David and Chris.

Delores was a homemaker until her youngest, Chris, started school. At that time she worked, managed and retired from the Wonder Bread Company.

She was an avid bowler for many years until she started golfing alongside her husband. She became the Ladies Champion at Dungeness Golf Club and then began a long relationship with Peninsula Golf Club as an avid golfer. She made five holes-in-one through her years there. Her last hole-in -one was two days before her 85th birthday.

She gave up golf at 88 years old because of health problems, but she played cards weekly with her very good friends of the Peninsula Ladies golf club.

After they retired they spent several years as snow-birds traveling to and living in Lake Havasu, Arizona. They owned a travel trailer that they left at the lake. They made very good friends and were excited to see them each year until Dad was unable to make the trip any longer, but they stayed in touch with their Havasu friends by email, letters and phone calls.

Delores was the last surviving sibling. She is survived by her daughter, Cyndi (Jim) Webster; sons, Fred (Jeanie) DeFrang, David (Terri) DeFrang, Chris (Jonna) DeFrang; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sherry Shamp and Midge Kettle; brother-in-law, Bobby DeFrang; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; father; and step-father, Warner Forsman; siblings, Lorraine Shamp DeFrang, Marjorie Shamp Bourget, Vaughn Shamp and James Shamp; her daughter, Catherine DeFrang; son-in-law, John Harper III; and great-grandson, Braden E Ramsey.
