Hannah Rene
Spaulding
Nov 12, 1991 — May 27, 2021
Port Angeles
In Port Angeles on Tuesday November 12th 1991 at 9:05 in the morning, God blessed us with a daughter, the youngest of seven with six older brothers to protect her.
In elementary school she loved art, her cats, gaming, old classic films, Disney films, reading and baking, music and more which these loves would grow and mature with her making her who she would become.
Hannah was an amazing artist. In high school she used her self-taught Photoshop skills to create special profile pictures for her friends My Space and Facebook pages. She did many wonderful drawings in pencil or ink. Some wonderful oil paintings as well.
Working with Jenny Steelquist, her art teacher from High School, who encouraged her to sketch and go beyond. She received recognition of the high degree of artistic excellence from entries in the annual regional art shows for several years in a row and her art was displayed in several cities.
She always remembered Laura Brabant her business teacher as dedicated, compassionate and confident. And had many memorable times with her
She received awards of excellence in the PAHS business dept. career and technical education, she received the Youth Salute for outstanding citizenship and achievement plus many other recognitions and thank you notes from teachers and her principal for her participation in volunteering.
While in High School Hannah worked at the family business (BR) she always had fond memories of her customers.
After High school Hannah moved to Lakewood WA. There she worked to become a home health care giver. She received her yoga instructor certification, she worked with the humane society to bring home rescued cats, nurse them back to health and hold them for adoption to good homes.
Upon moving back to Port Angeles in 2016, she continued to help out at the family store and then started working as a home health caregiver. Driving her clients to doctor appointments and doing in home care. She loved her work.
As she and her brothers grew into adults they all formed very close relationships, and she adored and loved her sister-in-law's as her very own. She held these relationships close to her heart
Hannah loved holidays and family gatherings, but the last two covid years ensured we would spend less time together so she could be safer.
She enjoyed visiting her friends, her best friend a single parent of three Hannah thought of as extended family. When the oldest son started school, Hannah would visit and read to him and have him read back to her, but as her health issues progressed she saw less and less of them.
In 2017 Hannah was diagnosed with AIHA, a rare immune deficiency where her immune system would attack her red blood cells. She was treated by many Doctors and endured many blood transfusions which were very hard on her due to her rare blood type, but she continued to work being more concerned about her clients than herself.
She was very health conscientious, and cared about what she ate to help her body heal.
In 2018, Hannah had to have her spleen removed to save her life and more blood transfusions when needed. To this day, doctors have not been able to understand why the AIHA aggressively progressed.
During this time she met Dorian, the love of her life. He took very good care of Hannah, taking her to her Doctor appointments between Port Angeles and Seattle, and much more but still Hannah became too weak to continue her home health care work, and had to focus on her own health.
Dorian says, Hannah was beautiful, caring and passionate about life and would always go out of her way to help others, from long hours caregiving to rescuing animals on the street. She loved, cats, art healthy eating and music. She could always put a smile on your face. My life was brightened immeasurably with her in it, and I am proud to say that this amazing woman was my soulmate. She will be in my heart forever
In May of this year Hannah was sent to the ICU at the University of Washington Medical center. With treatments for her blood disorder and Liver. She was responding well and was sent home. A week later she was sent back to the ICU in Seattle, her liver had gotten worse, causing her kidneys to fail and she was put on dialysis.
On May 27th 2021 Hannah passed away unexpectedly in the ICU in her Mother's arms while holding her dads hand.
Hannah is survived by her partner Dorian Lucas, her parents Steve and Cathy Thanem, brothers JP, Jeff (Christine), James (Bree), Joseph (Yuan Hui), Joshua (Beth), Jared. Her five nephews, Grandma Shirley of Florida and Grandma Lita of Kodiak AK and many cousins Aunts and Uncles.
Our family is touched by the kindness of all those who donate blood, as that gave Hannah extra time to share her love and goals with Dorian and her family. Those who knew Hannah closely, knew she would rather give than receive, so
Instead of flowers please donate blood to the local blood bank, or donate to a local cat foster program, an art program, or
charity of your choice
in memory of Hannah. To those who have sent such heart felt cards and flowers, our family wants to thank you so much.
There will be no service as the immediate family held a small private memorial picnic together May 31st.
