Jack went to work at the M & R Timber Mill in 1963. He started his career on the green chain, then driving forklifts, and carrier. His last position was the head-rig sawyer, a position held until the mill closed in 1988. He was a proud member of the Union I.W.A Local 390 for over 26 years. After M & R closed he worked at various mills as a sawyer and a millwright, In 1991, Jack and Scherry bought El Amigo Restaurant and owned it for 14 years until his retirement. Many good friends were made there and many good memories.
He loved his family very much. We couldn't have asked for a better husband, father, or grandfather. He was so proud to be called "Pa'' at sporting events as he treated all kids as his own. He had quiet strength and he was our rock. He loved puttering in the garage, fixing whatever needed fixing. He loved watching all western movies, especially John Wayne, and listening to "Old Country Music".
He loved his calls from Jim in Michigan, his daughter's special dinners on Sunday, talking and working on projects with "other" son, Rich.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his son Jim(Brenda) Cowan, his daughter Kimberly(Richard) Stone, his sister Trudy(Steve) Swearingen, along with 4 grandchildren Christopher and Corey Stone and Brandy Fisher and Tara Roberson. He was preceded in death by his son Keven Shellum, mother Doris Sukert, stepdad Robert Sukert, sisters Bobbie Rowland and Mary Ellis, brothers Wayne Sukert and Gorndon Sukert.
