Port Angeles
James August Sanderson was born October 14, 1939 in Portland, OR and passed away at home in Port Angeles, WA on March 9, 2022.
He married his wife of 60 years, Jean Bonney, in 1961, and after graduating from the School of Forestry at Oregon State University he took a job working for the Washington State Dept of Natural Resources and later worked for the State of Washington Department of Revenue bringing him and his family to the Sequim-Port Angeles area in 1972.
Jim enjoyed hiking the trails of his beloved Olympic mountains, and along the coast, eventually hiking the complete Oregon Coast with his wife, Jean. He instilled his love for the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He and Jean also enjoyed traveling with their trailer, visiting family and friends, exploring and hiking across the country.
Jim was also passionate about music and loved to sing. He played the guitar, led worship music and sang for many years in the choir of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim. He further shared his love of singing and music by participating in Port Angeles Light Opera productions and the Peninsula Singers.
He was an active member of the Juan de Fuca Kiwanis club, he enjoyed serving as a leader and Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 490 in Sequim, and he volunteered with the Washington State Trails Association.
Jim lived a life full of joy and was known for his smile, laughter, singing voice and his firm handshake. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife Jean, his brother John Sanderson of Monroe, OR, his three children and six grandchildren. He will be missed, but his love of life, nature and humanity will live on.
