Obituary

Loren Alden Schmitt, born January 29, 1924, to Clarice (Stoops) and William Loren Schmitt, in Nampa, Idaho. Loren was in the Navy for 21 years. He flew in B-24's as an Aviation Electronics Mate from 1942-1945. Served in the South Pacific Theatre of WWII. He also flew in helicopters during his Naval career.

He earned both a BA and MA from the College of Idaho and was a teacher 10 years, a principal for five years and superintendent of schools for three years.

Loren loved gardening, hunting and fishing. He cherished being a Mason, an organization he belonged to for 67 years. He was also part of the Fleet Reserve in Port Angeles.

On February 27, 1945 he married his soulmate, Geraldine Mae MacAlistar.

Loren is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Woolridge; and brother Bill Schmitt. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Margaret (Ron) Cates.

Loren and Geri died the same day and a memorial service is planned for them on Sat. April 6, at 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 110 E. 7th Street in Port Angeles. The Reverend Graham Hutchins will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the animal charity of your choice.
