Mark was born on 31 March, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward Sheridan Ford and Winifred Beatrice Ford Simonson, the 2 nd of four children born into a Military family, his father serving as a Senior Master Sargent in the United States Air Force.

In October of 1967, Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a field radio operator in Vietnam, rising to the rank of Corporal. Upon his return home and Honorable Discharge, Mark joined the Fairfield Police department, serving his community for the next 30 years as a patrol officer, motorcycle officer, homicide detective, undercover narcotics detective, and training officer from 1970 until his retirement in December of 2000.

Needing an outlet from the stress of his Police work, Mark turned back to his teen passion of building scale models. Over the next 50+ years, Mark was a prolific and talented model maker, specializing in German armored vehicles of WW2 and winning a Best of Show or Best of Class at almost every event he entered both in the U.S. and internationally. For 17 of those years, Mark was recognized as a Master builder, and served as a Judge for the International Plastic Modelers Society (IPMS) and Armor Modeling Preservation Society (AMPS). Mark had many friends from the world of scale modeling and was a sought-after author for his expertise as a builder. When asked to described his building techniques, he would often joke "it's magic".

Mark is Survived by his brother, Edward Sheridan Ford of Lauenburg, NC; sister Deborah Ann Ford of Port Angeles, WA; brother Thomas Michael Ford of Brigham City, UT; numerous friends all over the world, his golden retrievers, Danny and Katie.
