Monte Mogi
July 8, 1934 – April 18, 2021
Monte was born July 8, 1934 to Marc & Ruth Marcus Mogi in Chicago, Illinois. He joined an older sister, Bobbi, and a large extended family, including his grandparents and his favorite Uncle Danny, who was a paratrooper killed in action during World War II. This had a big impact onthe rest of his life. He enlisted into the Air Force and served in Vietnam.Afterward his military career spanned 34 years. He loved being a Jew and growing up in Chicago, playing kick the can in the streets, inventing wheels for old orange crates to ride like a motorcycle, fast and furious. He loved his Grandma Marcus' Delicatessen - a crisp pickle and lox and bagels. When he was 11 years old, the family moved to Burbank, California, and his mother opened a new dress store, buying and selling. Business was in his blood and he went on with his own pursuits and enjoyed them. After graduating from high school, he married his sweetheart, Ideene Schwartz, & enlisted in the Air Force as a Flight Engineer. Their first baby died shortly after birth, and he was named Danny after his uncle. Several years later their daughter Beth was born. Monte and Ideene were later divorced in 1967.He married Eleanor Gilbert a few years later, and they had 2 children, Shawna and Jason. They lived on a boat for a few years, and loved the water and adventure in Suisun, California while Monte was serving in Vietnam. They were divorced later.
A friend told him about this pretty lady, Nadine, who worked in a restaurant, so he drove his new car into the parking lot and went inside, hoping to impress her, but his car rolled out into the street because he forgot to put
it in park. He still won her over, and they later married. He became a Dad to her four children, Gina, Carmen, Diana, & Russell. They were happily married for 32 years until Nadine died in 2009.
He was advised to seek grief counseling and turned his sorrow into finding new friends, and later a new love, his counselor, Susie. He was determined and won her over with his fun personality. They eloped to Maui and surprised everyone. His later years were blessed by his love for the Lord and a therapy dog, named Trevor who together they were able to bring smiles to everyone they met.
He always loved his Harleys and taking the open road and the sound of pipes as he rounded the corners. Heaven must be full of joy because he is now safe in the arms of the Messiah.
He is survived by his wife, Susie, daughter Beth Wilkerson who lives in Port Angeles with her husband C.J., Shawna Ryan and husband Wayne from Frankfort Indiana, Jason and Kim Mogi who resides in Port Angeles.
Also survived by stepchildren Carmen & (Rocky), Diana & (Erik), and Russell. Also by Susie's five sons: Scott (Cari), Greg (Renee), Gordon (Meagan), Jared (Cindy), and Ross (Sandi). He also has numerous grandchildren and great grandkids including a new great grandson Paxton (granddaughter Kelli).
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bobbi, infant son Danny, wife Nadine, and stepdaughter Gina.
Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private Celebration of Life held on April 29, 2021. Arrangements are courtesy of Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, www.drennanford.com.
