Robert "Bob"
Orr Cain
Aug 14, 1952 — Sep 4, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Orr Cain announce his passing on September 4th, 2024, at the age of 72 in Sequim, Washington.
Known to his friends and family as Bob, Papa Bob, and Gpa, he was born on August 14, 1952 in Irvine, Scotland, where he grew up fishing, camping, and hiking in his beloved Scottish mountains. He developed a passion for science at an early age, which led him to a PhD from the University of Stirling in Scotland, and a fulfilling career as a research chemist with Syntex (later Roche) in Ireland. An intercompany transfer opportunity in the United States took him and his family to Boulder, Colorado in 1987 where he remained until retiring to Sequim, Washington in 2008.
Bob was a good man with a big heart. He left his mark in the communities in which he lived by caring for others, volunteering, teaching, and always leaving one with laughter and a smile. He was particularly active with the Mountaineering Club at the University of Stirling (where he met his wife); the Fergus Salmon Anglers and the Civil Defense First Aid and Rescue Unit in County Clare, Ireland; Boy Scout Troop 78 and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado; and with the Master Gardeners of Clallam County and doing Tai Chi at the Senior Center in Sequim, Washington.
For those wishing to honor Bob's memory, he would encourage you to walk on your local beaches and trails with your loved ones, get your thumbs green regardless of how much gardening experience you have, enjoy a good James Bond movie, have a deep conversation over a beer with friends, give your time to those in need, or donate to a charity that has meaning to you.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jean, his three children, Kirsty, Alan, and John, their respective spouses, Michael, Elizabeth, and Alison, his four grandchildren, Taylor, Moose, Colin, and Madeline, his sister Jan, and family in the U.K.
