Shirley Mae Richmond passed away in her sleep on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at age 92 at Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles. She was born at her home in Pierce, Colorado to Edwin Thomas Smith and Bertha Violet (Nicks) Smith on November 3, 1928. After graduating from Pierce High School in 1946, she married Charles Clinton Richmond on November 24th of that year. They moved to Port Angeles, WA during a storm in the winter of 1949. In addition to raising 5 active children, her main interest was in helping the Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and became Sunday School Superintendent in Port Angeles. She was active in United Methodist Women and held offices at the county level in PA and at the state level in Oak Harbor, WA . While living in PA the family enjoyed fishing, camping, clamming and smelting, especially at Kalaloch. The family moved to Oak Harbor for a job in 1971 at Whidbey Navy Base after Fiberboard closed where Charles had worked since arriving in PA. In 2010, after Charles was diagnosed with lung cancer, they moved back to PA to be near the children all grown now with families of their own.
Shirley is survived by her children: Jimie and Sue Richmond of PA; Nancy and Peter Humleker of Sequim; Carl and Cathy Richmond of Indio, CA; Doug Richmond and Oleta Rodrick of Port Angeles; and Gary and Ronna Richmond of Sequim, in addition to 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandkids.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister, and her husband Charles.
