Obituary

Therese "Tess" Agesson (Howell) passed away from post-surgery complications on November 21, 2023, at UW Harborview in Seattle, WA.

She was born in Bellingham, WA, on April 22, 1957, her parents Dave and Patsy Howell moved the family early in her life to Port Angeles, WA - a town that became a wholly beloved place in her life.

After testing the waters in California by extending her education at American River College and University of Phoenix and building a prolific career in banking and accounting, she returned to Port Angeles in 2004. Back in Port Angeles, she quickly put her extensive professional experience and focus into the city, first as Senior Accountant, then as the Financial Director for the City of Port Angeles.

Still, as dedicated as Tess was to her career, she was just as, if not more so, passionate about enjoying life to its fullest. She first met her husband Per Agesson in 1999 and they married in 2000 in a wonderfully small ceremony overlooking Lake Tahoe. Tess and Per were commensurate companions for the rest of Tess' life, and they spent much of their time traveling the world, often alongside their faithful pup Winnie. Tess also found happiness in spending any available time with her children and their children in Colorado and California.

Much like her mother Patsy, Tess was also a natural artist. She found beauty in the world around her and occasionally turned those visions into paintings and photography. Her artistry also reached into her culinary creations, which were enjoyed by many around the world. Tess also enjoyed camping, fishing, golf, softball, adventuring nature, thought-provoking movies and TV, and an occasional video game.

She was also passionate about supporting the Alpha-1 Foundation, an organization focused on Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. This hereditary condition caused a multitude of issues for Tess throughout her life, and was an underlying cause of death for her and some of her siblings.

In honor of her memory and efforts in life, the family requests donations be made to the Alpha-1 foundation to help further Tess' legacy of support and education for those who struggle with this condition.

Tess is survived by numerous loved ones who already miss her humor, comfort, intelligence, and wit without limit. These include her husband Per, sons Dan, Donald, and Markus, daughters-in-law Syvena, Diana, and Zanna, grandchildren Michaela, Mackenzie, Daniel, Nin, Lea, Manuel, Ixchel, Donald Axel, and Alistair, great-grandchildren Elijah, Jacek, and Liam, and siblings Joe Howell, Annie Dryke, Laura Rushton, Margie Warren, Patti Colwell, Jim Howell, Paula Howell, Barbie Anders, Mike Howell, Julie Boyd, and sister-in-law Monika Agesdotter.

When it comes to the full extent of her family and friends, there isn't enough ink in the world to print all the names of those Tess loved and had a truly remarkable impact on her life - and her on theirs. Tess was preceded in death by her brother David "Dave" Howell and sister Katherine "Kathy" Schlaffman.

A celebration of Tess' life will be held in the summer of 2024 in Port Angeles, WA. Friends and family will receive invitations for instructions once her family has them ready. The event will commemorate her remarkable journey, the profound impact she had on all of us, and the sheer happiness she brought to the lives of all those who encountered her.

She will be truly and dearly missed, but her legacy of kindness, grace, acceptance, hilarious commentary, and a surprising amount of athleticism for someone who was 5'2" will live on in all our hearts. Her passing should stand as a reminder to live with the same unbridled love and compassion she so thoroughly exemplified.

Rest in peace, Tess. You were one of the best of us, and the absence you're leaving behind will never find an equal. We love you.
