Thomas Monte
Hostetler
Jun 19, 1931 — Jul 26, 2022
Port Angeles
A loving grandfather, father, uncle, friend, and mentor to many folks, near and far, passed on from this
life into the next, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by loved ones, Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
Thomas born in the quaint little town of Sunnyside, Washington , graduated from high school in
Salem, Oregon in 1949, went on to graduate from Northwest Christian College and continued his
education at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana where he achieved a Masters in speech.
Thomas or Tom as he often preferred began giving back to his community from a family early age.
This is a trait that he is widely recognized and known for and an element of this gentleman that will
always be remembered and cherished by so many.
In 1962, he moved to Port Angeles, Washington to become the pastor for the newly established First
Christian Church, Deciples of Christ. He served in this faithful role for five years.
In 1968, he was granted the role of Director of Continuing Education and Speech teacher at Peninsula
College and maintained this position until retirement in 1998.
Tom married his first wife, Betty Lou Cayes in 1951 and fathered three children; Wayne, Mary Lou
and John. Tom and Betty Lou were later divorced. He married his second wife, Lynette Lacey Stetson
in 1979 where he became step-father to Donald and Lacey. He remained in the loving care of this wife
Lynette and other family for the remainder of his life.
Tom did not simply fulfill the previously mentioned roles in his life, but he went above and beyond for
his family, friends, pupils and his community.
He was a passionate collector and restorer of classic Ford Mustangs, one of the founders of the
Olympic Peninsula Mustang Club, and an avid attendee of many classic car shows.
Tom was always eager to share his knowledge with any who were willing to receive it.
An inspiration to any man or woman alike. Tom and his wife Lynette dedicated 28 years of their
mid/later lives offering comfort, care, guidance and love to raising many foster youth on the Olympic
Peninsula. Making a difference in lives every step along the way. Tom also helped found the North
Olympic Foster Parent Association. Many choose to live a quiet and simple life, but Tom chose to go
above and beyond and committed his life to helping others.
Kind, caring, compassionate, resourceful reliable, inspirational, passionate, patient, attentive,
honorable, humble and loving, among a vast number of other words, describe Thomas M. Hostetler and
the way those who were fortunate enough to meet him will always remember him. He is gone from
this strong earth and ascended into Heaven, but is lived on by his loving wife Lynette Hostetler, his
daughter Mary Lou and his step-daughter Lacey. He was preceded by his sons Wayne and John
Hostetler and step-son Donald Stetson whom he has been reunited with in Heaven.
His body may be gone, his spirit may have moved on, but the memories he left in the minds of the
many lives he touched will continue to live on strong.
A celebration of life will be held at the Peninsula College Longhouse on Saturday, August 13th at 2 p.m
followed by a potluck.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home in Port Angeles was entrusted with his arrangements. Please sign the online guestbook for his family at www.drennanford.com .
