William Graves
Andrew
Oct 11, 1926 — Sep 2, 2019
Sequim
Bill was born in Trenton, Tennessee on October 11,1926, Labor Day, September 2, 2019, Bill joined his heavenly father, with his wife and two daughters at his side
Bill's family was stationed in Hawaii as a child, he thought of this island as paradise. He often expressed his love of the island through his wide variety of Hawaiian shirts. Later he moved and spent his formative years growing up in California.
Two days after his 17th Birthday he enlisted in the Navy in 1943, joining his father and older brother to serve our country in WWII. Bill was stationed in Guam, Apro Harbor as a communications specialist. He notified Zumwalt's command that the Indianapolis had not reported in.
In 1946 he was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to California where he met his soul mate and wife Mary Lou Michaelis of 72 years. During their marriage he worked at Douglas Aircraft, than became a Los Angeles Times Dealer. At that time his professional musician sister Marcia was working in Anchorage, Alaska, and applied for a homestead for Bill and his brother. That drew the Andrew clan to Wasilla, Alaska in 1961 where they built their log house, cleared fields, and earned the patent to the land in 7 years.
With the move Bill changed professions to a lead counselor at Alcantra Youth Camp, an honor camp for juvenile delinquents where he was able to positively influence troubled youth. Retiring from that position and his children grown, Bill and Mary moved to Grants Pass, Oregon for a few years and then traveled the Western States in an RV for three years looking for the perfect place to settle. They discovered Diamond Point and built their home in 1989 where he became very active in the Diamond Point community and homeowner's association. In 2014 Bill, Mary & their beloved dog Promise moved into assisted living in Sequim where they enjoyed spending time with the employees & residents of Sinclair Place.
On September 2, Mary held Bill's hand for the last time throughout the night. Just before morning he pointed to the ceiling and said "Look". Mary asked "what?". He continued to point and said "look" again. Mary asked if he was seeing people and he said "yes". Then he spoke in what sounded like a foreign language and he didn't speak foreign languages. Within a short period of time Bill repeated the same scenario. Shortly after that Bill peacefully left to be with his Lord and Savior.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Andrew, children; Donna (Jon) Harrison, Linda (Don) Andrew Steinberger, Bill (Becky) Andrew, and Deborah (Ken) Andrew See. His legacy includes 30 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.
